After School Clubs

We are very lucky that the staff of Pontllanfraith volunteer to run after school clubs and activities. We do our best to offer a range of activities to a range of ages (within the obvious limitations of staff skills & availability). Numbers may be limited according to the activity.

A timetable is published at the beginning of the Academic year but is subject to change due to weather and attendance, for example. Clubs will not run on weeks when staff have to attend additional afterschool meetings, training or events - this will be shared with parents in advance.

There is no charge for clubs run by school staff. However parents have told us they are willing to pay a small charge for additional clubs run by outside providers.

Important:

It is very important that we know that you are expecting your child to attend an after-school club and that you know that that is where they are. We also need to know that every child will get home safely.

If your child is in school but not attending the club please ensure that YOU let the school know that morning (either in writing or by telephoning the school office). ALL children should be collected by an adult at the end of any after school activity.

We aim not to cancel clubs at short notice and staff will usually be able to arrange cover if they are unavailable. Very occasionally a cancelation may be unavoidable and if this is the case we will contact you.

Applying to attend clubs:

We are unable to cater for unlimited numbers in clubs and some are more popular than others. Therefore, at the beginning of the Autumn Term we send an application form out to parents. This form is open for a limited time only and parents are told when it will close. A form needs to be completed per child per club. You may apply for more than one club. Once we have established demand for each club we can  then confirm if all who applied are able to attend that term. If too many apply for a club we may, for example, switch membership after half or a full term.

If parents ask for their child to join a club after the form has closed it will depend on numbers as to whether they can join.  If we are unable to accommodate the request we will prioritise these children for attendance the following term. We review numbers attending and membership of the club at the start of each term - acceptance at a club in the Autumn Term does not guarantee membership for the  Spring Term, for example, if there is high demand.
